Jews of Colour (JOC) is a pan-ethnic term that is used to identify Jews whose family origins are originally in African, Asian or Latin American countries. Jews of Colour may identify as Black, Latino, Asian or of mixed heritage such as biracial or multi-racial. Mizrahi and Sephardi Jews from North African and Arab lands vary in whether they self-identify as “Jews of Colour”.

Rivka, a Jew of Jamaican descent born and raised in Toronto, seeks to build community among Jews of Colour in Canada while opening dialogue among the mainstream Jewish community about the experience of Jews of Colour. She is the co-founder of the group Jews of Colour – Canada and the sole Canadian recipient of the URJ’s JewV’Nation Fellowship. Rivka is a recognized speaker on Jewish Diversity and is filming a documentary on Jewish Diversity. She is also the Synagogue Administrator for City Shul, teaches computers at the Bernard Betel Centre and volunteered for Limmud Toronto 2017 as the Chair of Logistics.
